Happy Easter!  Happy Spring!
Let's celebrate with this cheery tin.  It features 5 great scenes from around the Magic Kingdom.  The original Big D/Globe Head logo is in gold on the lid made to resemble a brass plate. The tin measures 8" x 5.5" x 5".     

The tin was filled with taffy and sold for $15.95 in 1995.  How do I know?  Because this was the last 'in park' purchase I made on my first trip to WDW as an adult before the official logo changed in 1996 in celebration of the 25th Anniversary.  It is one of the few items in my collection that has not had a previous owner.

It has been awhile since I posted any postcards.  So here are the final two Adventureland cards from the original 0111 series.  Both highlight animals from the Jungle Cruise.  You can see that they are from two different printings, with the Python card using the Florida Flag logo on the back.

St. Patty's Day - Cast Member Style

Happy St. Patrick's Day....WDW cast member style.  I didn't think I had anything from my collection for St. Patrick's Day but I found this 'Eyes and Ears' from March 16, 1979.  This 8 page, 8.5x11, newsletter was "prepared by and for the cast of Walt Disney World."

The cover article describes the Character Department and how a cast member may become a Pageant Host/Hostess, portraying a Disney Character.  Inside the newsletter are a variety of cast related stories and information, from benefits information to classified ads.

Two articles refer to St. Patrick's Day activities.  "Mardi Gras a Success...St. Pat's Day Next!" describes the menu at the Fantasyland Cafeteria and another article encourages spectators to watch the "3rd Annual St. Patrick's Day Road Race."  And don't miss the results of the backgammon tournament on page 7.

Sturdy Easy-to-Assemble Bookends

Who doesn't love sturdy, easy-to-assemble book ends....especially if they feature Donald Duck?  These hard plastic book ends measure 5" wide at the base and about 6" tall.  They were made by Al Nyman & Son, Inc. in 1974.  Alco products tended to be children's desk supplies like super hero pencil sharpeners or erasers.  I have seen a few Disney related products from Alco but this is the only Walt Disney World labeled item in my collection.

Preview Edition - The Master Plan

The final sections of the 1970 Preview Edition of Walt Disney World describe the resort amenities, provide a Q & A, and layout the "Master Plan" for the 43 square miles where "...Walt Disney incorporated the ideas and philosophies of a lifetime."

Pages 16 & 17 detail the entertainment, golf and convention options that would be available.  The Q & A section contains a map with the 'original' castle logo and the Big D/Globe Head marking Orlando.  There is also information on the Preview Center as well as instructions on purchasing an additional "Preview Edition" for $.65.

The Master Plan included "an airport of the future, an industrial park designed to showcase American industry at work...and an Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow,"  and new innovations, such as "the first 21st century information communication system" and vacuum tube disposal system.
